Try a sample before stringing enough beads for an entire necklace. Braid two or three inches, then hold it against your wrist, neck, or favorite jacket. Studio light can be sneaky. A color combination that sings on the worktable may whisper when worn, while a surprise pairing can suddenly bloom against skin.
Bead quantity depends on bead size, braid structure, and the length you plan to make. Rather than trusting a formula blindly, count the beads used in one inch of your sample and multiply from there. The Rhythm of Adding Beads to Kumihimo
Set up your cords on the disk using the round-braid arrangement you already know. Keep the strung beads wound on bobbins or gathered neatly near the disk, with a short working section available on each cord. The goal is to prevent a tangle festival while leaving each bead easy to reach.
Begin with a short section of plain braid. This un-beaded beginning gives you room for an end cap or clasp and creates a clean transition. Then, as you make each regular Kumihimo move, slide one bead down the active cord and place it snugly beneath the center of the disk immediately before that cord crosses into its new position.
The next crossing cord helps trap the bead against the braid. Gentle tension is the secret. Pull too hard and the bead may sit awkwardly or the cord can kink. Pull too softly and you may see gaps between beads. Aim for a firm, even tug, like settling a favorite sweater into place rather than yanking a drawstring.
At first, work slowly enough to watch each bead land. The beads should form an even ring around the braid, with no random cord showing between them unless that is part of your design. Keep the braid from wandering

Finish With a Little Breathing Room
